The Otago Daily Times has been recognised for its strong coverage of women’s sport, with the 2025 Sport New Zealand Insentia Media and Gender Study finding the ODT had the highest gender balance across news coverage of all individual media organisations at 33.1%. Women accounted for 36.1% of our sports news coverage, up 5.1%, while women’s sport made up 26% of our overall coverage in 2025 – a significant increase from 15% in the inaugural 2020 study.
