Introducing Allied Media

DUNEDIN – Allied Press, the South Island’s media company, is rebranding to Allied Media.

The rebrand reflects how the business has evolved beyond just newsprint, today running more than 20 newspapers, five magazines, major events and ODT.co.nz – which, as the online news platform for the South Island, receives 10 million page views each month.

CEO Grant McKenzie said the new name better reflects the company’s evolution.

“The rebrand from Allied Press to Allied Media reflects the broader scope of what we do. A lot of people don’t realise just how far our reach goes. With our newspapers, magazines, websites and events, we’re part of the fabric of the South, from Blenheim to Bluff. The rebrand also brings Star Media under the Allied Media name, so we can better serve readers and advertisers,” McKenzie said.

But while the company has embraced digital growth, McKenzie stresses that print is not going anywhere.

“Digital is a big part of our business and our future. That said, we’re still champions of print and firm believers in its power, particularly in the South. While the media landscape has changed significantly in recent years, there’s a strong appetite for quality print journalism across the South Island. We’re committed to serving that need.”

The rebrand comes at a time of strong performance for Allied Media titles. The Otago Daily Times was recently named New Zealand’s most trusted newspaper for the fourth year in a row and won four awards at the recent Voyager Media Awards.

“The ODT’s recent Voyager wins, Metropolitan Newspaper of the Year as well as Best Editorial Campaign for our Dunedin Hospital campaign, show what strong local journalism can achieve,” McKenzie said. “That’s exactly the kind of work we’ll keep producing as Allied Media.”

The company continues to invest heavily in journalism, with an editorial team of 95 journalists across the island. Recent readership results show this investment is paying off, with both the Otago Daily Times and The Christchurch Star recording year-on-year increases in the latest Nielsen survey.
